Call for signatures: In Paris, support for Emmanuel Grégoire

The municipal election in Paris is a defining moment for 21st-century urban planning.

Paris has become a global reference for cities confronting the climate, economic and social challenges of our time. It has been demonstrated that a great metropolis can transform itself through sustainable urban policies that place well-being and quality of life at the heart of public action.

Over the past years, Paris has shown the world that it is possible to rethink the city: prioritising low-carbon mobility, greening public space, reducing the dominance of cars, and strengthening local amenities in all their forms—shops, pedestrian streets, neighbourhood services, and vibrant living spaces.

Opening schoolyards to neighbourhood residents, transforming streets around schools into small urban parks, creating garden alleys, reclaiming the Seine for people, and preparing the future through an ambitious Local Bio-Climatic Urban Plan: these initiatives embody a forward-looking vision of the city.

Yet this progress remains fragile. Populism, demagoguery and intolerance continue to spread. The rejection of science, climate denial, car-dominated urban models and the refusal of diversity all threaten to push our societies backwards.

More than ever, we—women and men of all ages and nationalities, urban planners, academics, and researchers—who love cities as places for life, who believe in a humanistic urbanism centred on people and quality of life, who are committed to a city in harmony with all living and non-living systems, call on Paris to preserve its spirit of innovation.

For this reason, we support the candidate of progress, Emmanuel Grégoire.

Let us remain vigilant. Dark currents are rising worldwide. It is the responsibility of the forces of light to act — so that Paris, and cities everywhere, remain cities for people, for life, and for humanity.
